Types of Massage

There are a variety of different styles, types and techniques of massage utilized by massage therapists. We have provided a description of the types of massages being used at Flex Massage Therapy.

Medical Massage

Medical Massage is result oriented and the treatment is specifically directed to resolve conditions that have been diagnosed and prescribed by a Physician. The therapist may use a variety of modalities or procedures during the treatment, but will focus the Medical Massage treatment only on the areas of the body related to the diagnosis and prescription. Medical Massage is generally billed in 15-minute segments using current procedural terminology and adhering to the usual and customary reimbursement fee schedule. This is not a full body massage. A Doctor 's perscription is needed prior to treatment render to the patient.

Orthopedic/Sports Massage

Orthopedic/Sports Massage is a type of therapy that mixes various types of Advanced Manual Therapy techniques. The included, but are not limited to: Myofascial Release, Deep Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Therapeutic Stretching, Manual Lymphatic Drainage and Structural Integration. Orthopedic/Sports Massage is suitable for anyone experiencing pain, tension and/or would like to increase flexibility and performance. If you need to relax or heal an injury to avoid surgery and drugs Orthopedic Massage is for you.

Medical/Orthopedic/Sports Massage consists of three primary elements:

  • Assessing patient's condition and needs
  • Adapting the treatment plan to heal the source of pain
  • Educating the patient about self care activities that will prolong the results of their therapy

In addition, at Flex Massage Therapy we strongly encourage that all of the patient's health care team work together for the benefit of the patient.
